It also works in Firefox. After installing vidalia you need to open FF and go to edit->preferences->advanced(tab)->settings. Select “Manual proxy configuration”, leave all the fields empty, except the last one (socks) – there you fill 127.0.0.1:9050 and you’re ready to browse. Don’t forget to check your ip online first, just to be sure that is not yours

Entering text as noted … method fails. Chrome browser hasn’t a clue what happened and neither do I. What is a SOCKS5 or should I say WHERE is a SOCKS5 ??? CHROME sez “unable to connect to proxy server”.
